JIM SCOTT'S LAKE MARTIN HOME

Jim Scott's home and garden in Lake Martin, AL, was featured on the HGTV show A Gardener's Diary, in various magazines, and on garden tours. The TV show convinced me I had to see the gardens for myself. It was a four-hour trip from Alpharetta, GA, but worth every minute. This adventure was too good to go alone, so I took two friends, Eve and Dean.

The tour of the gardens was graciously given by Jeannie. She and her husband keep Jim's garden in tip-top shape, and she provided us with a very detailed tour.

One interesting item is that five of the eight acres are landscaped. While on the tour Jeannie showed us Jim's next project, which is still evolving, but will probably be a large patio with two-story waterfall, complete outdoor kitchen and pavilion/outdoor dining area.

When you view the photos on the "Photos" page, you'll see multiple paths, different seating areas, several garden rooms, catwalks, five different waterfalls, a "cave" wine cellar, several different terraces, a bocce ball/croquet lawn, children's play area, and beautiful views of Lake Martin. The amazing fact is when Jim started to develop his property, it was nothing more than a steep bank of red clay with rocks no larger than his fist. Tons of massive boulders, pavers, flagstone and gravel were salvaged from different locations and trucked to the property.
